Motorcycle headlift (steering-stem) stands: what they do, and what we sell instead

The short answer
Placid Deals does not currently sell a headlift (steering-stem) stand. A headlift stand lifts the front of a motorcycle through the steering head, so the fork legs no longer carry the bike and can be removed. If you only need the front wheel off the ground for wheel or brake work, a front paddock stand that lifts under the fork legs does that job, and we sell one as part of a front-and-rear kit. It will not let you take the fork legs out.

How a headlift stand works
A headlift stand has a vertical pin that fits up into the hollow bottom of the steering stem, usually through an adaptor sized to the bike. Levering the stand lifts the bike by the steering head, with the fork legs hanging free. It is normally used with a rear stand already in place, so the bike is supported at both ends.
When a fork-leg front stand is enough
For front wheel removal, tyre changes, brake pad and caliper work or simply cleaning, a front stand under the fork legs does the job. Choose a headlift stand instead if you are removing or servicing the forks themselves, or if your bike's fork legs or brake lines leave no clear lifting point.
What to check for either type
For a headlift stand, the steering stem needs an accessible hollow bottom and the right pin or adaptor size. For a fork-leg stand, check the width across the bottom of the fork legs and that the lifting pads will clear the brake calipers and lines.
